Mactan Newtown Beach: an Easy, Breezy Seaside Trip from Metro Cebu and the Airport

·

For a quick family beach day or a mental health break without driving far from Metro Cebu or Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), Mactan Newtown Beach is a compelling choice.

Located inside Mactan Newtown, this beach area has recently upgraded its amenities under Megaworld. Since it opened, it has become our go-to beach spot. This year alone, we visited three times. Its convenient location and improved facilities are a big help for moms with kids.

The crown jewel of the revamped Mactan Newtown Beach is its massive infinity pool. Its gleaming blue water creates the illusion that it’s part of the ocean. The design gives guests lounging at the pool a direct view of the sea, so you can imagine how picturesque the setting is (and how many photo opportunities are waiting for all my fellow shutterbugs). Yep, twenty isn’t enough.

Poolside amenities are thoughtfully provided. There’s an accessible bar that serves tropical drinks (like mango and pineapple shakes). Pool loungers are available for those who came to soak up the sun. Well-maintained restroom facilities are also on-site, though queues can get long on weekends.

My personal favourite is the stylish cabanas. These shaded retreats look so chic. It’s no surprise they fill up quickly, so arrive early to grab a spot. Families with younger children will appreciate the dedicated shallow area with playful mini-fountains. They’re great for keeping little ones entertained longer than usual.

While the inviting pool is the main draw of Mactan Newtown Beach, the beach itself offers a charming experience. Along the beachfront, some kiosks are strategically placed to cater to coffee cravings or snack orders throughout the day.

There’s also a buffet dining option near the beach, promising a satisfying meal with the serene backdrop of the ocean. The comfortable beach loungers are shaded by large umbrellas, providing unobstructed views of the sparkling sea. It’s truly relaxing to unwind here, listening to the waves and watching kids build sandcastles or hills. Although the beach may not rival Boracay’s stretch or Camiguin waters, the scenic views are more than good enough for a relaxing day out.

Beyond the main beach and pool areas, you’ll find plenty of additional lounge spots, including charming hammocks tucked away in quiet corners, perfect for a nap or getting lost in a good book.

Mactan Newtown Beach also offers a wide range of recreational amenities. For active guests, there’s an outdoor fitness area. Children can enjoy a dedicated outdoor play space and a separate, kid-friendly pool, ensuring a fun and safe environment. My child and his friend, along with my mom-friend, explored the fitness area (which has visual guides for each piece of equipment), and the soft ground helped prevent injuries. They spent about 30 minutes trying everything. The best time to visit this area is around 4 PM, when the sun isn’t too harsh. Be sure to apply sunscreen and keep an eye on the kids.

The establishment also features a full-service restaurant and bar (I believe it’s supplied by Savoy Hotel, but do ask them if it’s still the same).
