Les Maisons D’Itac Review: When the Tides Don’t Work in Your Favor
When we first arrived at Les Maisons D’Itac, the tide was high and the sea glistened. It was a worthy reward for three hours on the road.
Neil immediately spotted a wooden raft bobbing just offshore and swam straight out to it, climbing aboard like it was the most natural thing for a 40-year-old to do. Then he called to me. Leave the bags, he said. Our son was fine in the room. Stop arranging our things and just come take a dip.
So I did. Our arms and backs were sore for days, a reminder to keep putting in the reps so we can say yes to more of life.
That’s the risk of falling for a place. You go home and tell your friends about it, and you promise them the sea will be just as perfect when they come. But you forget to check the tides.
Here’s how I learned that the hard way.

Our first stay at Les Maisons D’Itac, a South Cebu beach resort
Les Maisons D’Itac is a small beachfront resort in Santa Cruz, Ronda, on Cebu’s west coast. Our first visit stuck with me for two reasons:
- It was our first long drive down South.
- The beach was turquoise (I’m not kidding), glistening at high tide when we arrived.
They also let us check in early, free, at 11 a.m. It felt like they exist to please. That first time, we stayed in the Panoramic Studio and paid about ₱5,540 for the night (August 27, 2026).
Bringing my pickleball friends back for the long weekend
Naturally, I couldn’t keep it to myself. I hyped the place up to my pickleball friends and got two of them booking their precious holidays in this tucked-away part of Ronda.

For the long weekend, we booked two rooms for one night (November 1, 2026). Both came with a set breakfast of bread, eggs and bacon. One was the Standard King Room with Fan (about ₱3,659) and the other was the Panoramic Studio with a sea view (about ₱5,431). Both had comfy beds, a couch and thoughtful interior design.

Outside, there’s a small shared pool and duyan (hammocks) strung up all around, so there’s always one free to sway in.

Inside, the restaurant doubles as a common area, with a billiards table, a sungka board (a traditional Filipino mancala game), board games and a shelf of books, mostly in French. Two resident dogs, Itaq and Stacey, wander about like they own the place. There’s no videoke here. You hear chirping birds instead, and there are plants everywhere you look. The beach was scattered with shells.
What we didn’t plan for was the tide. Lesson learned for my large group travel planning checklist.
When the tides don’t cooperate in Ronda, Cebu
This time, high tide came very early in the morning and late at night. That kind of tanked the whole reason for the long drive.

I didn’t want my friends to drive all that way for nothing. For me, shared meals with friends in a relaxed setting are already a highlight, but I know that’s not everyone’s idea of a good trip. So the whole time I wandered around the resort, I was quietly working out backup plans in case the sea stayed unswimmable.
Good thing Jane was on the same page. She messaged me early the next morning about plans, and right after breakfast we checked out and headed to Panagsama Beach.
How the Moalboal sardine run at Panagsama Beach saved our trip
My friends weren’t going to blame anyone. Still, the trip had one easy fix: Ronda is just 30 to 40 minutes from Panagsama Beach in Moalboal, where sea turtles swim near the shore and the sardines are out on their run. It turned out to be the right call.
Sea turtles in the shallows
The kids weren’t thrilled about the walk from the parking area. It was hot, and it wasn’t in the plan. But once they waded out and dipped their heads underwater, everything changed. With each peek, we found small, colorful fish and spotted THREE sea turtles gliding along the edge where the shallows drop into deep water. What a sight!

Swimming with the sardines
The kids couldn’t join us at the sardine school, which sits past the reef drop-off. They were happy chasing whatever fish they could spot while we adults had our moment.
What a view. The money shot is simple: you dive toward the school, and the sardines part, as if making way for you.
I’d seen so many photos of this and never thought much of it until I was there. My ears popped when I dove deep enough, but it was quick, and the encounter was worth it.

The drive home from South Cebu
All I hope is that everyone felt what I felt. That’s all we want on the days we’re finally free from the daily grind: experiences that relax our souls and reset our nervous systems.
The way back was bathroom breaks, corn stops and car sing-alongs. “I wish we could do it again,” my son said. That, for me, made it a good trip. Road trips with Neil and Cyd have become some of my favorite memories.

This is also a time to remember loved ones who’ve passed, and I held the most recent one in my thoughts. Dora would have loved spontaneous trips like this.
Is Les Maisons D’Itac worth it?
Yes, if you want a quiet, small beachfront stay with friendly staff and you time it with high tide. It’s a good base for Moalboal day trips too. If you want to swim all day no matter the tide, stay in Moalboal instead.
